Small Farms Week is designed to highlight the work of and show appreciation to the state’s small, part-time, limited-resource, and socially-disadvantaged farmers. North Carolina farmers and farm families are the backbone of our state’s agricultural economy. This state’s small farmers work hard to make sure we have a safe and affordable food supply, so setting aside the opportunity to showcase and highlight their work is extremely important. This year marks the 37th anniversary of this salute to small farmers across North Carolina, as sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Program at North Carolina A&T State University. The kickoff for the week will take place in Robeson County, home of the 2022 “Small Farmers of the Year “ Millard and Connie Locklear of New Ground Farms. Activities include a panel discussion, a complimentary lunch, then a tour of New Ground Farm in Robeson County. RSVP is REQUIRED to attend Monday’s events in Robeson County. To register, call the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Robeson County Center at 910-671-3276 by March 15. Registration is also available online.
