National 4-H Week

October 1-7, 2023

Happy National 4-H Week everyone!! Even though this week is all about celebrating 4-H, we hope that you will consider showing off your 4-H spirit all year around! How can you show 4-H off? There are so many ways! You can wear your favorite 4-H shirt to school, you can tell a friend about 4-H and invite you to your next club meeting, you can do something great to honor 4-H by volunteering your time to help someone (donating books for Books for a Cause would be an awesome way to celebrate 4-H too!!), you can write a thank you note to your 4-H Club Leader, and so much more! Please help us “To Make the Best Better” by showing off your love for 4-H!

Special note: Don’t forget to check out the winners of our NC 4-H Photography Contest on the North Carolina 4-H Facebook page at 7:00 p.m. on October 5th!

Fall Food Drive-Now through November 10th!

Join our Yadkin County Teen Council team as they collect non-perishable food items for Yadkin Christian Ministries! Here are some items to consider donating to this food drive: Peanut Butter-The food bank always needs this item! Canned Beans and Proteins-Pasta & Pasta Sauce: Makes for an easy meal on a budget!

Pantry Staples: Often flour, sugar, oils, and common spices are not donated. So these items would be great to consider donating.-Canned Vegetables- Baby Formula and Baby Food: These are not common items received for most pantries, but are always needed!

You are certainly not limited to these items, but sometimes it is nice to have ideas. If you have any questions about this Food Drive, please contact Madaline Jones at madaline_jones@ncsu.edu and she will be happy to help you. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and our address is 2051 Agricultural Way, Suite 201, Yadkinville, NC 27055.

4-H Camp-Date TBA-Deadline October 30th, 2023

4-H Camp is for youth 8-14 years old (4-H age does apply). Youth will participate in rock climbing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, high ropes, canoeing, water sports, archery, yoga, and more! Scholarships are available upon completion of paperwork.

Paperwork can be sent to you upon request. Space is limited! Make sure to contact our 4-H Agent, Ms. Madaline Jones, for more information! She can talk to you about cost, scholarships, what to expect, and more. This year, we have to put our numbers in for camp much earlier than prior years. The deadline to sign up for 2024 will be in October, so make sure to look into signing up soon.

Yadkinville Halloween Downtown-October 31st

3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

This awesome event is coming back this year in Downtown Yadkinville! This is a free event for kids to come by and trick or treat with local businesses and organizations in the county. This year at this event, N.C. Cooperative Extension of Yadkin County will be represented by Kellee Payne, our Horticulture agent! She will be handing out amazing treats at Arts Council Plaza. Make sure to come see her and many others at this event!

Yadkin County 4-H Holiday Food Show Event Date: November 18th 

Deadline to Sign up: November 10th

The Yadkin County 4-H Holiday Food Show is back yet again this year and has been moved to a new date due to popular demand! This event is where youth bring in their own homemade food creation, table setting, and have their portion of a table decorated with a holiday as their theme. This is a super fun event where youth get to practice their cooking skills, use their public speaking skills, and get to try everyone else’s yummy food. All the youth have to do is sign up, bring their food, decorations/table setting for their table, and have fun. This event is open to 4-H’ers ages 5-18. This event will be held in the banquet room in
our building. The deadline to sign up for this event via this Google Form is Friday, November 10th. A hard copy of this form can be given upon request. We hope to see you there!

4-H Project Record Book and 4-H Portfolio Workshop-6:30-7:30 p.m.-November 30th

It’s time to get to work on your 4-H Project Record Books and 4-H Portfolios, but where should you start?? Or what if you do know what you are doing with these projects, but is it on the right track?? This workshop will be for you! Ms. Madaline is gearing this workshop towards YOUR needs. Please fill out this survey so Ms. Madaline can tailor this workshop to your needs. If you are interested in attending this workshop, filling out this survey will count as your registration for this workshop or you can contact Ms. Madaline to sign up.

Military Mail Christmas Card Drive

Due December 8th

Let’s come together to let our troops know how much we appreciate them by writing Christmas cards! All you have to do to participate in our Military Mail Drive is have a Christmas card and either write a letter or draw a picture, put it in an unsealed envelope, and then take it to the Yadkin County 4-H Office. Please hand write or draw these cards so it makes the cards more personal for these soldiers. We do ask that you make sure what you say in the card is uplifting and that the pictures are of happy things as well. We want to bring a joyful smile to the faces of military member’s faces that are receiving these letters during the holiday season. These cards can be dropped off at our office or mailed to us. A great time to bring them by is at the Holiday Food Show if you plan to participate. We will then make sure the troops receive your cards.

Enroll in 4-H Online 2.0-You can Enroll in 4-H at Anytime!

Are you new to 4-H or have not enrolled in 4-H for 2023? If you have not enrolled yet for 2023, make sure to read this very important message about how to be in 4-H!

Every year, if you want to be a 4-H’er or 4-H volunteer in North Carolina, you MUST enroll in 4-H Online 2.0. Please enroll your child into our program by creating a 4-H Online account for them. Access 4-H Online.

Everyone should enroll in 4-H before attending a 4-H program. If you have problems enrolling or re-enrolling your child, please contact Ms. Madaline at madaline_jones@ncsu.edu or through calling 336-849-7908.
