Collapse ▲Farm to School is a community-based strategy that connects students, teachers, families, and communities with healthy, locally grown and produced food. In addition to promoting healthy eating, Farm to School advanced the S.T.E.A.M curriculum while supporting local farmers and producers. Implementation of Farm to School may vary from one locale to the next, but at its core, it includes one or more of the following components:
- Education – Farm to School educational activities connect students to locally grown or produced food, local agriculture, nutrition, nutritious cooking, and health.
- School Gardens – School Gardens support hands-on experience with growing healthy food and increase nutritional preference for fresh fruits and vegetables while supporting the STEAM curriculum.
- Procurement – Farm to School procurement includes purchasing locally grown or produced foods, strategically promoting and featuring local foods, and serving local foods in the cafeteria or snack tasting opportunities.
Introduction to Farm to School Online Course
Enroll in the Introduction to Farm to School course to learn more about Farm to School! This course will define Farm to School, review the history of Farm to School in North Carolina, explain what Farm to School may look like in different communities, and describe the overall benefits of Farm to School.
