Families in Robeson County now have a new way to enjoy the gift of reading thanks to the Robeson County 4-H volunteers. Located outside of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Robeson County Center, the new  4-H Lending Library offering free books for both children and adults, provides the community with easy access to a variety of reading materials.

We wanted to create a space where families could enjoy reading together and have access to books they might not otherwise find. Reading builds knowledge, sparks imagination, and supports success in school and beyond. This is just another way 4-H can give back to our community.

The Lending Library is simple: community members are welcome to stop by, browse the collection, and take a book at no cost. Readers are encouraged to keep the books once finished, but donations of gently used books are accepted to help keep the shelves full and diverse.

The library includes a wide selection of children’s books, from picture books for early readers to chapter books for older youth. Adult titles are also available, with options ranging from fiction and biographies to educational and inspirational works. The goal is to make reading accessible for everyone.

The Lending Library also reflects 4-H’s commitment to lifelong learning. Just as 4-H empowers young people through hands-on projects and leadership opportunities, the library encourages both youth and adults to develop a love for reading and continuous self-improvement.

Community members are invited to visit the Lending Library at the N.C. Cooperative Extension Robeson County Center, located at 455 Caton Road in Lumberton. Families can stop by to pick up a book, drop off donations, or simply explore the collection.

Whether it’s a child discovering the joy of their first storybook or an adult finding a new favorite novel, the Lending Library is here for everyone. We hope it becomes a resource the whole community can enjoy.
